Position Summary:

Responsible for the processing, storing, mixing, blending and of organic and conventional feed for the poultry and swine industries. This position rotates between first and second shifts.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Includes the following. Other duties may apply or be assigned.

  • Maintains good control over all ingredient inventories and mill bin destinations.

  • Performs feed production and truck loading to maintain efficient use of mill and load-out bins.

  • Blends conventional, organic, medicated feeds. Applies hand-ads as prescribed in formula.

  • Operates feed drug room use and maintains accurate records.

  • Helps maintain a safe and clean feed mill work environment.

  • FISMA compliant

  • Helps drive all of BFF’s Environment Management Systems (EMS) in an impactful manner to include: monitoring/reducing operationally-related negative effects on the environment as well as pollution prevention.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual **must have at least 2 years of feed milling experience** as well as be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   • Ability to read, write and perform complex mathematical calculations.

  • Security- To ensure that the site is secure at all times, i.e. checking all access doors and making sure they are closed at all times. Question, control and report people who do not belong in immediate work area.

  • Housekeeping-To ensure that all work areas are maintained - clean and litter free at all times… i.e. sweeping, dusting and debris removal are all mandatory parts of housekeeping.

  • Safety- To ensure all safety standards are met and followed to the fullest. Must be alert at all times and use best common judgment.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of related feed mill experience/training.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure – using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw/interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

Must have a basic understanding for computer operations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to grain dust or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, feed ingredients/medications and outside cold or heat. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
