Position Summary: 

Performs all mechanical maintenance duties that are needed in maintaining a safe and efficient feed mill and feed delivery operation. Completes all preventive maintenance, keep accurate records, parts requisitions, and inventory management.  Inspects feed mill equipment daily, detect potential mechanical and electrical problems and implement solutions. Responds to breakdowns, assess and coordinates proper resources to address problem.  Makes monthly inspection of all leg belts and cups.  Maintains required written records/reports for work performed, corrective actions and parts management.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:  

Includes the following.  Other duties may apply or be assigned.

  • Performs monthly preventive maintenance duties

  • Operates all shop equipment to repair and maintain all mill equipment

  • Performs all daily activities that are needed to ensure safe and clean working conditions

  • Perform welding duties using a wire welder.

  • Operate forklifts, hoists, hand power tools, slings, grinders, cutting torch, and other hand tools related to the jobs needs.

  • Read, understand, and follow job order specifications, engineering drawings, and/or work orders.

  • Willingness to cross-train and perform the work of other job tasks in addition to the primary assigned position.

  • Inspect equipment to maintain functional equipment if any equipment needs repairs notify supervisor/lead or maintenance department.

  • Perform a variety of complicated tasks, as required. 

  • Will be able to handle routine mechanical tasks such as, but not limited to manual blow downs, changing sight glasses, regenerate softener's, changing out pipe fittings, and housekeeping.

  • Will assist at any other location that requires all hands-on maintenance help.

 

Educations/Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma. Technical training in mechanics, electrical, plumbing, computer skills.  1-5 yrs. mechanical experience or feed mill experience.

 

Competencies: 

  1. Safety- To ensure all safety standards are met and followed to the fullest. Must be alert at all times and use best common judgment.

  2. Housekeeping-To ensure that all work areas are maintained - clean and litter free at all times… i.e. sweeping, dusting and debris removal are all mandatory parts of housekeeping.

  3. Security- To ensure that the site is secure at all times, i.e. checking all access doors and making sure they are closed at all times. Question, control and report people who do not belong at the Farm.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.   

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure – using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.  Ability to resolve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Must have a basic knowledge of electricity and plumbing

  • Must know how to use various kinds of electrical meters

  • Must be familiar with applicable OSHA safety rules

Must also work in close quarters, lifting heavy objects, and work outside in extreme weather conditions. The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Must possess the ability to work in an agricultural environment, indoors, outdoors, office, warehouse, and processing areas each varying in temperature, odor and other environment specific atmospheres. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, and rarely exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
