Braswell Family Spotlight

Meet Derek Richardson, one of our feed mill associates. Derek has been with Braswell Family Farms for a little over six months and helps keep our feed ingredients stocked, mixed, and ready to load into our trucks. Born and raised locally, he’s always been curious about Braswell Family Farms. Wanting to stay local, the opportunity to join the Braswell Family Farms team seemed like a good fit.

A typical day for Derek can be described as busy. But that’s the way he likes it. He helps out where needed, mixes the feed ingredients, changes out the tote systems with different ingredients to create the various feed recipes going to our farms and other farms throughout North Carolina and Virginia, refuels the micro bins, unloads feed ingredients from rail carts as they come in, and collects feed samples from each batch of feed that is made.

Derek’s favorite thing about his job is learning the feed and egg process. He also enjoys his coworkers and the work environment at Braswell Family Farms.

Derek also likes to stay busy in his free time. When not at the mill getting everything ready for running recipes, he can be found spending time with his family, detailing cars, or taking trips to the beach.

As for his favorite way to enjoy his Braswell Family Farms eggs, Derek prefers omelets loaded with green peppers, onions, and lots of cheese.
